What to do with Christopher Nkunku?

What to do with Christopher Nkunku?

We have spent all summer tinkering and building our squads, only for FPL to throw a few curveballs at us in GW1.

We have seen Valentin Barco (DEF, 4.0m), who was a popular pick in the FPL community, on the bench for Brighton’s opener.

We have seen another popular pick in Pedro Porro (DEF, 5.5m) get an injury before the end of the Spurs game at Leicester.

And last, but certainly not least, we have seen Christopher Nkunku (MID, 6.5m) get subbed off before the 60th minute for Pedro Neto (MID, 6.5m).

Now I will talk about this from my POV as I own all three of them, but I am sure many are in this position as all three players were popular picks as mentioned.

Barco is an easy decision; he goes on the bench until I decide to Wildcard.

Pedro Porro’s injury didn’t look serious; I think he might be okay for GW2. We will hear from Postecoglu in his presser anyway. Even if he misses out, I can rely on Taylor Harwood-Bellis (DEF, 4.0m), who plays Nottingham Forest at home. Not the worst fixture to play him in.

Which brings us to Nkunku. Me personally, I am looking to offload him. I see many content creators say we should be patient with him, we need to give him few more GWs before we make a decision, we didn’t assemble our squad for 1 gameweek, his fixtures are good from GW2 onwards etc. All of that goes in the bin if he is hooked of early again, or even worse, is benched. I don’t want to take that gamble, I would rather get a nailed player and reassess Nkunku after. If he comes good, I will get him back easily, he is at an affordable price.

There are many reasons why we should keep an eye on Tomas Soucek

And at his price you can pick some solid players with good fixtures for the next 4-5 GWs. You can get Kaoru Mitoma, Alejandro Garnacho, Morgan Gibbs-White or go 1m lower and get Emile Smith-Rowe, Ben Brereton Diaz, Antoine Semenyo, Yankuba Minteh (if fit). Mitoma is my preferred choice at the moment as he has 3 home fixtures in the next 4, with Ipswich and Forest in GW4 and GW5 being two of them.

Those are my thought regarding the issued we have in our teams after GW1.
