Our Pro Pundit: These are the best £5.5m midfielders in my opinion

Struggling to accommodate 3 premium defenders plus Mohamed Salah (MID, £12.5m), Alexander Isak (FWD, £8.5m) and Erling Haaland (FWD, £15.0m)? It’s possible, but you’ll need at least two £5.5m midfielders. Let’s see which £5.5m midfielders are the best to start the season with:

Emile Smith Rowe – Record signing for Fulham, you’d expect him to get plenty of minutes. After all, he moved away from Arsenal to kick-start his career. In the first 12 GWs the only really tough fixture is Man City away in GW7.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – Had a strong finish of the 23/24 season, I expect him to hit the ground running from the off this season. Forest are also one of the teams with the best opening fixtures.

Yankuba Minteh – Having a strong pre-season for Brighton after his move from Newcastle, looks like he is nailed to start on the right wing, Mixed fixtures in the opening GWs, but they still have Ipswich and Forest in GW4 and GW5, both at home.

Antoine Semenyo – Reclassified this season from FWD to MID, he offers good value. 8 goals and 4 assists last season in 2099 minutes. With Solanke potentially leaving Bournemouth, he could become their main man upfront. Decent opening fixtures too.

Andreas Pereira – Instrumental in all Fulham attacks, on set pieces and penalties, with strong fixtures as already mentioned. Doubt over his future as there are reports of him leaving the club, but if he stays, he is a decent option.

These are the £5.5m midfielders that I am considering for my team, if I go big at the back and up front. In that case Emile Smith Rowe would definitely be in, plus one of Hudson-Odoi, Yankuba Minteh and Semenyo. Wouldn’t double up on Fulham midfielders, especially as it’s very likely I will start the season with Rodrigo Muniz (FWD, £6.0m) as my 3rd forward.
