Our Pro Pundit explains why the changes sound very promising

FPL IS BACK! FIRST IMPRESSIONS!

After a long wait, longer than usual because of EURO 2024, FPL launched last Wednesday. There are four things that caught my attention, so let’s dive in right away.

Five free transfers

Up until now, you could only save up to two free transfers. Now we get the chance, if we are patient and not trigger happy, to get up to five free transfers. For me personally, this is a good move by the FPL towers, as it could bring totally different tactics and playing styles during the season, which could lead to fewer template teams. Also, with the new rules, your accumulated free transfers won’t wipe out after you play your Free Hit or Wildcard. Another good move, if you ask me.

Mistery Chip

There will be a new chip this season called Mistery Chip, which will be available in January 2025, and we won’t know what it will be until at least December 2024. So it’s wait and see on that one!

Scoring changes

When a goalkeeper scored a goal, he was getting 6 points, the same as the defenders. From now on, the goalkeepers will get 10 points for getting on the scoresheet. There are also changes in the Bonus Points System (BPS).

  • Goalkeepers who save a penalty will get 9 BPS; until last season, it was 15 BPS.
  • Goalkeepers and defenders conceding a goal will be worth -4 BPS.
  • A goalline clearance will be worth 3 BPS.
  • A foul will be worth 1 BPS.
  • A shot on target will be worth 2 BPS.

Quick summary: The BPS changes favor attacking players more than defenders.

Pricing of the players.

The FPL towers have nailed it with this one as well. They have priced the players perfectly, like Haaland being £15.0m, so it will hopefully lead to a lot of different teams and tactics ahead of or during the new season.

All in all, the changes sound very promising, and I think we are in for a very exciting FPL season!
